Thin
Client computing is the concept of delivering applications from
a centralized file server to multiple users through a "thin"
data stream. Utilizing thin client technology, we gain the ability
to deliver applications from centrally managed locations to
local or remote end users anywhere in the world via LAN, WAN,
or wireless communications. In combination with Citrix Independent
Computing Architecture (ICA) it is possible to deliver almost
any application, anywhere, anytime.
Many of the Fortune 1000 companies utilize this technology
to lower the total cost of delivering applications to end
users. Because applications are delivered from a centralized
server, fully functional applications can now be delivered
to just about any type of computing device or thin client
terminal. ICA clients are available for every major operating
system available including, Windows CE/95/98/NT/2000, SCO/UNIX,
LINUX, Solaris, and Mac or even through a web browser. This
flexibility allows companies to deliver almost any Windows
or Solaris application to any device which can run ICA. Citrix
technology allows users to have the same look and feel that
they are used to with a windows desktop or can restrict access
to just a few applications. This is especially helpful when
companies have end users on many different platforms, remote
users working from home, on the road, or in remote offices
around the world. These users can have access to the same
applications and data they do in the office.
