Commercial Email (UCE), otherwise known as "spam", is the leading complaint of
Internet users and corporations. It fills up mailboxes, consumes bandwidth,
wastes time, and costs billions of dollars each year in the process.
According
to Ferris Research, a research firm specializing in messaging and
collaboration, spam will cost U.S. corporations more than $10 billion in 2003,
equaling more than $14 per user per month in lost productivity, consumption of
IT resources and helpdesk support.
"E-mail
users are being inundated with 10 times the spam they were receiving just a
year ago, and 16 times what they were getting two years ago." - Gartner

Ceryx's
spam reports have tracked an escalation in spam from 13% of all email in
October 2002, to over 60% of all email a year later.
"Most
companies are unprepared for the increase in spam. Today it is an irritant,
next year it will materially interfere with business." - Ferris

"Enterprises
may be overwhelmed with the number of tactics needed to protect their
connection to the Internet." states The Gartner Group. "Engaging a
(antispam) service can provide a very high level of expertise focused on this
important area for an affordable cost, and it can relieve the enterprise of the
complex and thankless job of spam control."
