Citrix Systems, Inc.(R)
(Nasdaq:CTXS) today announced it has significantly expanded the
size and diversity of its iBusiness program with the addition of
41 new Application Service Providers (ASPs) from 11 countries. The
new members include HostPro, a Micron Electronics company;
TriZetto, a provider of Internet-enabled application services and
business portals for the healthcare industry; and three major
telecommunications firms. Total enrollment in the Citrix(R) ASP
program, which launched in September 1999, now stands at 86. The
new members comprise ASPs from Australia, Austria, Canada, France,
Germany, Hong Kong, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, the United
Kingdom and the United States. The program's first
telecommunication companies - Cable & Wireless, Cable &
Wireless HKT Ltd. (Hong Kong) and Telstra - further broaden the
program's diverse membership, which includes Internet Service
Providers (ISPs), application infrastructure providers, and
manufacturers. The Citrix iBusiness
Program was established to drive growth of the emerging ASP market
by giving members the benefits of pay-as-you-go access to Citrix
application server software, a cornerstone enabling technology for
application hosting, as well as support services, partnering and
marketing opportunities. "The
worldwide and Asia/Pacific market opportunity for ASPs is
expanding quickly. IDC forecasts customer spending on Japan's ASP
market to grow at a 119 percent compound annual growth rate --
thanks to evangelizing of the concept, support from influential IT
leaders, and installation of required infrastructure," said
Richard Yen, Senior IT Services Analyst, IDC Japan. "Worldwide ASP
services is growing at a 92 percent compound annual growth rate,
reaching $7.7 billion globally in 2004. The support of enabling
technologies and programs, is helping this dynamic marketplace
become a key IT services sector." A
key market trend is the move by new types of firms, such as
broadband providers, application infrastructure providers, and
vertical industry players, to become ASPs. For example, some
telecommunication companies, such as Star One, Telenor and Winstar
Communications, are hosting applications in addition to providing
the network infrastructure needed for deployment over the Internet
and other networks. Further, some companies, such as 186K,
Agiliti, Telstra and Veracicom, are providing the back-end data
center infrastructure upon which ISVs and ASPs can deliver
application-hosting services. Other ASPs are specializing in
delivering applications and information to vertical market
segments such as accounting (eAccount), legal (Union Square
Technology Group), manufacturing (eMake), education
(LearningStation.com), and healthcare (TriZetto Group).
"At Cable & Wireless, we believe Citrix is
a front-runner in the ASP infrastructure market by offering
superior enabling products and services," said Paul David, vice
president, Application Services. "We are pleased to join the
Citrix iBusiness ASP program, from which we will benefit in terms
of the ASP licensing agreement, technical and marketing expertise,
and the opportunity to leverage the strong Citrix sales channels."
"With the rapid acceleration of ASP
market growth worldwide, service providers are eager to leverage
proven solutions that can jump-start their businesses today, and
provide a competitive advantage over the long term," said Chris
Phoenix, vice president and general manager, Citrix iBusiness.
"Our application server technologies - including MetaFrame for
application hosting, administration and deployment, and NFuse for
application publishing via a Web browser - can enable both. As the
application hosting model gains global acceptance and new types of
ASPs enter the market, Citrix will stay in the forefront with
innovative technologies and focused programs to promote our
members' success." Citrix
application server software enables ASPs to centralize the
installation, deployment and administration of applications on
their servers, and deliver application services with high
predictability, speed and security across any network connection
to users on virtually any platform and/or client device. A unique
advantage of Citrix application server software is its ability to
deliver the full richness and interactivity of Windows, UNIX(R)
and Java applications over the Web to a single application portal
in a thin, manageable manner. New
